Owning a pup can be an exciting thing - they certainly bring a lot of love and light into everyone’s life. However, a pup may not be the best thing for your yard. In fact, dog urine can ruin and start to destroy your lawn if you don’t keep an eye on it. Particularly because dogs tend to urinate in the same spot, time after time. However, you are in luck. There are a few things that you can do to help this grass re-grow, and your lawn and tree care experts in Denver, CO
are always ready to jump in where needed!
Here are some steps you can begin taking to help your grass regrow:
Prepare the spot.
Take a look at the dead spots around the yard and get to prepping! Prepping is easy - all you need to do is take a rake and spend time raking up as much dead grass as possible. While this sounds counter intuitive it will definitely be worth it in the end.
Buy the necessary supplies.
Your next step? Let’s buy the necessary supplies. To be honest, this will simply be some high-quality top soil and grass seed. We recommend trying to figure out what grass you are currently growing in your yard, and buying the same seed so that way your grass has a uniform look. If you live in a hot, dry area, we also recommend purchasing some hay to help keep the ground moist and help with water retention.
Lay down the “base”
Without a base, the grass seed won’t take and resonate with the ground. After laying down the top soil, step on it to help it compress against the existing ground. After compressing the dirt against the ground, take some time to lay down the grass seed over the dirt and cover that once again with some dirt. Now, if you do happen to live in dry conditions...this is where you lay the hay over the final layer of dirt. This helps to hold the moisture!
Water. Water. Water.
After laying down the first few layers, go ahead and give the grass plenty of water and love! Keep the area moist, but not soaked. We recommend checking it every day, or every other day, to see if you’ll need to water it.
